Worldwide carbon emissions expected to set record high in 2010

NOV 22, 2010
Physics Today
Independent : Scientists are forecasting that emissions of manmade carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will reach their highest level in history this year. Although global CO 2 emissions tend to fall during a recession, last year’s recession resulted in only a 1.3% decrease—less than half of what was expected. To avoid a potentially dangerous climate change later this century, scientists warn that governments need to begin curbing emissions drastically. At the United Nations Climate Change Conference , to be held 29 November through 10 December in Cancun, Mexico, member countries will attempt to hammer out a more strenuous agreement to address global warming.
