The New York Times: The destruction by the Swiss government of thousands of files relatedto the business dealings of a family of Swiss engineers suspected of helping smuggle nuclear technology to Libya and Iran was partly because the United States had urged that the files be destroyed, according to New York Times reporters William J. Broad and David E.Sanger. The purpose, former Bush administration officials said, was less to thwart terrorists than to hide evidence of a clandestine relationship between the Tinners, the family at the heart of the case, and the CIA.
For the UNESCO section chief, “striking a balance between global coherence and respect for national ownership and cultural diversity is both essential and complex.”
