Various: Former surgeon general Richard H. Carmona yesterday accused the Bush administration of ignoring the advice of scientists and promoting policies based on poltical ideology, not science. Carmona is not the first science official to have accused the adminstration of doing so. The Washington Post lists NASA scientist James E. Hansen, NIH scientist Story Landis, Susan F. Wood, an assistant FDA commissioner as also complaining about political interference over their research.
For the UNESCO section chief, “striking a balance between global coherence and respect for national ownership and cultural diversity is both essential and complex.”
