Guardian: The strongest winds blow offshore and the most cost-effective wind turbines are the biggest ones. For those reasons, engineering companies are vying to develop mammoth wind turbines that can operate far from the shore and generate of the order of 10 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 10 000 homes.
