Ecological impact of light pollution on invertebrates

BBC : Researchers at the University of Exeter in the UK have published a paper in Biology Letters on the effects of street lighting on ground-dwelling invertebrates. The scientists spent three nights trapping nearly 1200 organisms under street lights in Cornwall. They found that invertebrate predators and scavengers were more common near the lights, even during the day. Their findings suggest that artificial lighting is altering the structure and function of ecosystems at higher levels than previously recognized.
