Dana Rohrabacher (RâCA) introduced a bill, HR 5587, “to establish a United States Commission on Planetary Defense and for other purposes.” The bill springs from the concern of Rohrabacher and others that a so-called near-Earth object could strike Earth with catastrophic results. The bill, which has bipartisan support, is currently being considered by the House Committee on Science and Technology.
For the UNESCO section chief, “striking a balance between global coherence and respect for national ownership and cultural diversity is both essential and complex.”
